The Yiniets vineyards are Greece’s highest; clinging to the slopes of Mount Pindus in an area where the seasons have a rhythm of their own, the vines mature slowly. Yiniets, which means ‘vineyard’ in the local Vlach dialect, is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Traminer. The grapes are usually harvested in early to mid October; it’s as though Dionysus, the god of wine, wanted to keep these mountain vineyards in Epirus till last.
